Chemical Safety Information - Glossary
Inhibitor
An Inhibitor is a material which is added to a chemical to prevent an unwanted reaction. For example, 2,6-di-t-butyl-p-cresol may be added to tetrahydrofuran (THF) to prevent potentially dangerous polymerisation. Inhibitors are often added to chemicals which tend to undergo self-induced free-radical polymerisation.
