Norfolk construction company prosecuted over fatal fall from height
At Norwich Crown Court, Reads Construction Ltd, based in Harleston, Norfolk, has been fined £20,000 with costs of nearly £32,000 for breaching s.3 of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 in the circumstances of the death of a self-employed contractor who sustained fatal injury in a 10-metre fall in February 2003.The 43-year-old workman who died was replacing rooflights on an industrial building in Diss, 20 miles south of Norwich. He fell through the fragile surface on to concrete below in an accident attributable, in part, to failures in planning and preparation.
