Oil company fined over drowned worker
Ensco Offshore (UK) Ltd has been fined £115,000, with costs of £175,000, at Preston Crown Court for breaching health and safety legislation in the circumstances of the May 2003 death of a 25-year-old man in an accident at an exploration platform off the Lancashire coast.
The deceased worker was on a ladder, contrary to the company's intention, when he fell 30m in to the Irish Sea while handling hoses, the company pleaded guilty to the breaches, its risk assessment for the activity was neither suitable or sufficient.
