Glasgow to get a life
Today is the 1st day of the 2-day RoSPA Scotland Safety and Health Congress (27-28th September 2006) in Glasgow.
The message to more than 100 delegates is - to 'Get a life', that is, they should concentrate on real risks that cause real harm and suffering. Those attending can share the latest thinking on promoting and adopting good health and safety practise, key themes include:
behavioural safety;
combating excessive 'risk aversion';
construction safety;
workforce consultation;
stress; and
promoting safety outside of work. .
Comment:
"Too often, health and safety is given as the reason for justifying unpopular decisions. The reality is that by adopting HSE's recently published sensible risks, people understand that risks and benefits can be balanced.
A responsible attitude to health and safety is necessary at every level of an organisation, be it a small business or big corporate entity. By sharing ideas, experiences and good practise, we hope that lives can be saved and prevent some of the thousands of reported major injuries in Scotland each year can be prevented." - Head of Operations for HSE in Scotland, who will be chairing the first day of the congress.
