Austrian digger driver's life was hanging by a thread
An Austrian digger driver was fortunate in the extreme to escape uninjured yesterday after his 21-tonne machine overturned and fell into an excavation in Scharding, Linz, the victim was trapped in his cabin and a stout tree root had pierced the cabin area and was pressing on his stomach.
Local fire crews were fearful of a further earth slide and ingress but were able to cut a hole in the cabin through which the driver scrambled out, the Scharding firemaster said his life had been "hanging by a thread."
