Diggers breach gas pipe in Greece, emergency plan activated
A Greek prosecutor has ordered an investigation into the midweek accident in which a gas leakage occurred when excavation work breached a Helenic Petroleum pipe in Kalohari, western Thessalonica, releasing 50 tonnes of natural gas into the atmosphere.
A 2-mile evacuation zone was ordered and the region's industrial accident emergency plan was activated for the first time in 20 years.
