Gases kill crew of Black Sea freighter
A release of gas has killed 3 seamen on the Sierra Leone-flagged freighter, Odisk, after water accessed a cargo of 2K metric tonnes of ferromanganese silicon being transported from Ukraine to Turkey.
The ship was loaded in the Ukrainian port of Kerch but reported a 'mayday' off Yalta as the seamen became stricken, 3 others are in intensive care.
The ship, anchored off Yalta, is alleged to have lacked breathing apparatus and training in the handling of hazardous cargoes.
