Retreat mining fatality investigation in West Virginia
Investigation is ongoing at the Brooks Run mine in Cucumber, in the far southwest of West Virginia, where 2 miners died in a roof collapse while engaged in retreat mining more than 1 mile underground in a zone where pillars were being collapsed prior to the shaft being taken out of operation.
