Safety has no boundaries in York
Today, 22nd January 2007, is the 1st day of York's Health and Safety week, bringing together its working community to attend a series of events in the Guildhall, part of HSE and York City Council's promotion of the city as a 'Safer Working Community'.
The week features free advice and information seminars on key issues like farm safety, smoking, manual handling, violence at work, asbestos, fire safety, pest control, chemical and electrical safety and first aid. The aim is to create a better working environment for all York's inhabitants, with fewer workplace accidents and less time, and money, lost through ill health.
Inspectors from the local authority and the HSE have been making an increased number of checks on local premises, a great number of local companies/organisations are committed to supporting the initiative.
