Potentially as many as 180 cranes may feature in the assessment, construction companies are being informed of the intention to perform the thorough examinations normally required by the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998¹ at 6 or 12-month intervals or in accordance with a written scheme of examination.
HSE says it requires the company to demonstrate those cranes examined by competent persons employed by them² are safe, cranes previously examined by an independent competent person are not affected by the Notice.
In another crane incident, on Friday afternoon a crane fell on a scaffolding structure on a construction site in Stranmillis Road in Belfast, one man was injured.
