Ladder use clarification published
In response to recent media interest, HSE has published 2 clarifications concerning ladder and stepladder usage to help persons select the appropriate system of work/equipment for work or access.
They can be read in conjunction with INDG402 Safe use of ladders and stepladders An employers’ guide, an explanation of the '3-points of contact' rule is depicted by illustration.
As HSE reaffirms, ladders and stepladders should only be used for short duration and light work or where site conditions prevent the use of safer access equipment, the initial choice to use the equipment needs to follow a consideration of the hierarchy of controls and a careful risk assessment.
