Investigation into fatal gas explosion at West Virginia shop
Investigation was ongoing yesterday at the site of the explosion of the Flat Top Little General Store in rural area 60 miles southeast of Charleston, West Virginia, 5 persons died and 5 others were critically injured in the incident, including fire crew and building inspectors who were attending a reported gas leak when the explosion occurred.
It is believed that the shop's underground gas tank and another above ground did not explode in the accident, however in the prevailing cold temperatures the gas would have pooled at ground level and entered the premises before encountering an ignition source.
