Hundreds of Sakhalin fishermen rescued from melting ice
For the 2nd time this year Russian authorities have had to rescue hundreds of fishermen from melting icecaps broken off from the island of Sakhalin and drifting in the Sea of Okhotsk, north of Japan, many were reported to be drunk.
The Russian authorties in the Far East have issued repeated warnings about the dangers of ice fishing, especially far from the coastline, and asked islanders to desist, it is reckoned that around one third of the population engage in the activity.
