Crew rescued from sinking barge off north Australia
The 12-man crew of the Zinifex barge, Wunma, were successfully rescued yesterday after their vessel laden with 5K tonnes of zinc concentrate experienced engine failure and began to sink in storm conditions with a 3-metre high swell in the Gulf of Carpentaria, helicopters responding to the mayday faced a protracted task before getting the crew back to Normanton, north Queensland.
