Fatal industrial accident at Cardiff recycling centre
A man in his 30's died on Friday evening following an accident at the Cardiff City Council Lamby Way waste recycling plant. The employee sustained head injuries in the industrial accident when, according to one account, a roller-shutter door struck him, inflicting what soon later proved to be a fatal injury.
The health and safety performance of the waste and recycling industry is a very poor one relative to similar activities and it has become a focus of attention for the enforcing authorities. The number of fatal incidents are over 10 times the national average, accident rates are 4 times the national average.
