Craneway and structure collapse at Massachusetts dock kills 2
The collapse of a section of craneway and an adjoining structure at Fore River Shipyard, 10 miles south of Boston, has left 2 workers dead and several others injured.
The precarious nature of the collapse necessitated the deployment of dog teams from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to search the rubble for victims and survivors, 12 workers were inside the building removing asbestos at the time of the incident.
The metal superstructure of the craneway, which once housed 22 cranes, spans the former dry dock, the dock site is being redeveloped and dismantling work has been ongoing for 4 months by Testa Corporation, although no demolition was being undertaken at the time of the accident.
