Technical fault led to chemical tanker and tug collision at Hamburg
Hamburg's port authority has indicated that a technical defect led to the weekend collision of the 90-metre long chemical tanker, Stolt Fulmar, which was carrying 5K tonnes of 100% sulphuric acid when it collided with a tug off Blankense on the Elbe.
Although no chemical spillage occurred the tug took in water and had to be rescued from sinking.
The port authority confirmed that a pilot was on board the tanker and that no alcohol abuse was implicated in the incident.
