Ferry evacuated off Tenerife after water ingress
A major sea rescue took place in the early hours of Monday 4 miles off Los Cristianos, in the south of Tenerife, when the Spanish ferry, Volcan den Tacande, experienced engine failure following water ingress.
60 passengers and 29 crew were successfully evacuated from the ferry which was heading for the island of La Gomera from Tenerife, 38 persons required treatment for varying degrees of hypothermia.
The vessel was taken on tow to Gran Canaria, the cause of the water ingress has not been established.
