Severed leg accident attracts fine over supply of unguarded saw

Canadian company Glen Nelson Timber Ltd has been fined $24K in Ontario over an incident 2 years ago in which it provided unguarded equipment which led to a workplace accident when a 59-year old man's leg was severed at the knee.
The victim, an employee of J F Thomson Timber Inc, was operating a powered saw when the exposed blade caught on his clothing and inflicted the injury.
The equipment supplier pleaded guilty to failing to ensure that the disc saw was provided with a protective guard as specified in the manufacturer's instructions.
The victim's employer, J F Thomson Timber, faces OSH charges over the incident at a later date.
