Malfunctioning light fitting explodes at Indian airport
An electrical fault condition in a ceiling light fitting led to arcing and a fire yesterday morning at Chennai International Airport, in Tamil Nadu, India, causing a 30-minute blackout as officials isolated the airport's electrical system from the power supply.
The incident occurred at a passenger check-in area and caused a degree of panic among passengers mindful of a fire earlier in the week at Bangalore airport in which one person died.
