Confined space incident claims Japanese painter
One painter has died and 3 others were injured after inhaling solvent vapours while decorating in an unventilated apartment in the Yanagizaki district of Kawaguchi, just north of Tokyo.
Police were alerted by a neighbour hearing their plight and on arrival at the scene yesterday found a 42-year old worker dead and his 3 colleagues in a semi-conscious condition, three 3-gallon cans of solvent-based varnish were being used in the apartment while the windows were closed.
