Fatal lab explosion and roof collapse in separate German incidents
A lab explosion on a military base in Mainz in Germany has claimed the life of a 24-year old female soldier and left one other soldier and a civilian with critical injuries.
The 3 workers were in the lab on the edge of the barracks where the central medical corps conducts research into water and food samples from the Hessen, Rheinland-Pfalz, Saarland and Nordrhein-Westfalen regions.
In a separate incident in Paderborn, east of Dortmund, 2 construction workers were seriously injured when a 70sq m roof section collapsed during renovation work on a commercial/residential development complex, 15 workers in all were on site when the collapse occurred.
