21 killed in Russian mine during technical inspection
At least 21 Russian miners and engineers have been killed in a methane explosion early on Wednesday in the Yesaulskaya coal mine some 2,000 miles east of Moscow, a number of injured people are being treated in hospital in Novokuznetsk.
The mine had been experiencing technical problems regarding issuing smoke and it is understood that a team of 30 miners and technicians had arrived to investigate the problem and were inside the 400m-deep mine at the time of the explosion.
