Japan: Resident burned to death by care home nurse
A 28-year old part-time nurse at a Japanese care home has been arrested and charged over the death of an elderly resident who died from first degree burns inflicted by hot air blasting from an oil-fuelled fan heater.
The incident occurred at the Group Home Takamatsu in Kahoku, it is alleged that an 84-year old female patient was placed in front of the heater where she sustained the burns to the front of her body, succumbing to shock.
It is understood that the nurse has confessed to his role in the woman's ordeal and had attempted suicide, police take the view that exasperation in handling the elderly patient may have led to his loss of self-control.
