Council clear on Legionnaires' manslaughter charges
Barrow Borough Council has been found not guilty of the manslaughter of 7 people after the judge at Preston Crown Court directed the jury to return this verdict. The 7 victims succumbed to Legionnaires' disease in the summer months of 2002, more than 170 persons contracted it from its source at the authority's Forum 28 arts centre in Barrow.
The Council has admitted breaching the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974, one of its senior employees is still facing manslaughter and health and safety charges which are denied.
