#21 - 0--mikeshields--European Week 2006 theme to be 'young workers'--2005-08-25 05:07:00
#Young workers have, broadly, 50% more workplace accidents than older workers, and anyone looking to reduce the vulnerability of young workers to workplace accidents, and possibly prepare for EW 2006, can draw on a wide range of ideas and approaches to develop and take forward into material actions. - The European Agency for Safety and Health at Work envisages progress through a preventive health and safety culture among young people, young workers and their employers, as well as within schools, professional training institutions and employment centres.
As preparatory reading, the Agency has collated numerous sources of information on young workers and on accident prevention with accounts of project work undertaken in these fields in member states.
HSE recently published the following 3 Health and Safety Laboratory conducted studies centred on risk education and the young:
- A Review of National Curriculum (5-16 yrs) Guidance of England, Scotland and Wales. Report Number HSL/2005/25;
- Risk Education Provision: A survey of schools in England, Scotland and Wales. Report Number HSL/2005/24;
- Teaching Practice in Risk Education for 5-16 year olds. Report Number HSL/2005/23
